Reinhold Ebertin (1940), a pioneer in midpoint interpretation, associated the midpoint of Mars and Uranus aspecting the Ascendant or Midheaven with acts of violence and physical injury. This study tests those claims by measuring the frequency of aspects to planetary midpoints found in event charts of 134 school shootings in the U.S. and Canada (1970-2025). Statistically significant results were found for 8th-harmonic aspects to both Mars/Uranus midpoints (orb 3.5°) with Ascendant and Midheaven (p = .014 one-tailed, N = 134, r = 0.19). In addition, aspects between the Ascendant/Midheaven midpoints with Mars proved highly significant (p < .004 one-tailed, N = 134, r = 0.23). These findings not only provide empirical support for Ebertin’s earlier claims but also indicate that midpoint analysis, traditionally applied in natal astrology, has potential in mundane research. In this case, it identifies recurring symbolic signatures of sudden violence. With school shootings continuing to claim lives and reshape communities, applying such methods offers a new perspective on these deeply troubling events.
